Modern Warfare 2 is here and the M16 is back. We all know and love the M16 from previous Modern Warfare games but how does it hold up in the latest version of Modern Warfare 2.
In this article, we are going to take a look at the best M16 Loadout in MW2. Using the M16 with these attachments will turn it into a one-burst kill machine. You will be able to pop enemies across the map with ease. Let’s take a look at the attachments you need to use and the best perks and equipment for your loadout.
Best M16 Attachments MW2
Set up your M16 with the below attachments for an insane one-burst kill weapon. The other team won’t know what has hit them.
Barrel | 14′ Carbine Shroud Barrel |
Muzzle | Choline GS-X Suppressor |
Optic | Cronen Mini Red Dot (Personal Preference) |
Rear Grip | Sakin ZX Grip |
Underbarrel | FSS Sharkfin 90 |
The M16 has a lot of recoil by default so we want to minimize it as much as possible. The best attachment for this is the 14′ Carbine Shroud Barrel. Even with this attachment the gun still has significant recoil. Make sure when you are aiming for your target to aim for the chest and above.
The Choline GS-X Suppressor helps to keep you off the mini-map as well as suppress the sound of your weapon. This makes it much harder for enemies to pinpoint where you are on the map.
The Optic is really up to you and you may even opt to go for iron sights and add another attachment to the weapon. We like the Cronen Mini Red Dot Sight.
We use the Sakin ZX Grip to give us maximum recoil control on the M16.
Best M16 Loadout MW2
Now we have put together our weapon attachments for the M16 we need to build our full loadout. I like the setup below for going on high kill streaks and staying off the mini-map.
Primary | M16 |
Secondary | X13 Auto |
Tactical | Flash Grenade |
Lethal | Semtex |
Basic Perks | Tracker & Scavenger |
Bonus Perk | Cold Blooded |
Ultimate Perk | Ghost |
Field Upgrade | Dead Silence |
In Modern Warfare 2 you start the game with your initial perks. As you get kills and score in the game you will unlock your bonus and ultimate perks.
For this class, I would recommend running Cold Blooded as your Bonus perk as this will allow you to stay off AI targeting systems and thermal optics. You will also be undetectable to Recon Drones and Spotter scopes. This is great if you are playing more passively and holding down a specific area on a map.
For your Ultimate perk, we recommend picking Ghost, allowing you to stay off the enemy’s radar and flank behind enemy lines undetected.
Once you have unlocked dead silence we recommend equipping it as your field upgrade allowing you to move around the map in silence. The footsteps are loud in this game so dead silence gives you a huge advantage.
How To Unlock M16 MW2
The M16 is one of the guns in the game that takes quite a while to unlock. To unlock the M16 you will have to unlock all other weapons in the Tempus Armament platform. Below is a table of the weapons you are required to level up and the level you need to reach to unlock the next weapon in the progression.
Weapon | Unlocked When |
---|---|
M4 | Automatically Available |
FTAC Recon | M4 – Level 12 |
FSS Hurricane | FTAC Recon – Level 15 |
556 Icarus | FSS Hurricane – Level 17 |
M16 | 556 Icarus – Level 12 |
Modern Warfare 2 has a new feature called Weapon platforms. Platforms are essentially an in-game “brand” of guns. To unlock specific weapons you will have to level up certain weapons in a weapon platform.
Unlocking attachments for a specific weapon platform allows you to use those attachments on other compatible weapons in the platform.
The unlock path for the M16 is:
M4 –> FTAC Recon –> FSS Hurricane –> 556 Icarus –> M16
