Have you managed to get your hands on a Playstation 5 and want to get started streaming? If so, in this article we are going to show you how you can stream both with a capture card and without one.

Streaming can be a great way to share your gaming skills and interact with the community around the game you are playing. Let’s jump in and take a look at how you can get started streaming on your Playstation 5.

Best Streaming Setup For Playstation 5

With your console there are two methods of setting up a stream. One is to stream directly from your Playstation 5. This is the cheapest option and the fastest to get up and running. The second method is to use a capture card and computer to capture and stream your gameplay. This will give you the best performance and customisation options. Below we will show you how to setup both.

Method 1: How To Stream Directly From Your Playstation 5

If you want to try your hand at streaming and don’t want to invest a lot of money I would use this method first. To stream directly from your Playstation console follow the steps below.

  1. In the Playstation home menu go to Settings (COG Icon in the top right) –> Users and Accounts –> Link with other services –> Select Twitch and Login (You can use mobile or login directly on your Playstation)
  2. Once you have linked Twitch to your Playstation you are able to stream games directly from your console. Just coot up the game you are looking to stream.
  3. Click the create button on the Playstation controller
  4. Select broadcast and select the platform you want to stream on (Twitch)
  5. Here you can now enter a Title for your stream
  6. To change other settings you can click on the 3 dots to change advanced settings such as stream quality or adding a Playstation Camera to your stream.
  7. Once you’re ready you can click the Go Live button to go live to your audience on Twitch.

This is the easiest way for a beginner to get started streaming on Twitch. As you are using your console to both game and stream at the same time you may notice some performance drops in the games you play. If you want to have the best quality gaming experience and a high quality stream you should have a dedicated setup using a PC & Capture card.

If you do want to go down that route follow the steps below.

Method 2: Streaming On Playstation 5 Using A Capture Card

This way is one of the most straightforward methods that you can use with your Playstation 5. The only complicated “thing” is to acquire one of these devices in your house. You’ll need to buy one from Amazon and wait for it to arrive at your doorstep. Some of the best options in the market come from Elgato, AVerMedia, and Razer.

Once you have one of these devices in your possession, you’ll need to plug things up. First of all, your HDMI from the Playstation 5 will plug into the Capture Card. Afterward, another cable connects the device to your Television and your Computer.

When done correctly, you will have a “feed” awaiting on your computer. In other words, you will see the gameplay of your video game in both places at the same time. One in the Television/Monitor and the other in your Computer.

Our recommended capture card is the Elgato HD60S.

Once you have hooked up your capture from your Playstation to your computer you will need to install a software to stream to a platform like Twitch or Youtube.

Programs like Streamlabs OBS will take the gameplay from your Xbox Series X and send it to your streaming platform of choice. Still, though, to start your streaming journey, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Create a Twitch Account and link it with Streamlabs OBS.
  2. Download Streamlabs OBS on your computer and run it.
  3. In “Sources,” click on the “+” button and add the “Video Capture Device” source.
  4. Set the location and window size of your Video Capture.
  5. Add more elements to the scene if needed.

Pros and Cons of using a Capture Card for Steaming

One of the fantastic features of a Capture Card is the additional customization in your scene. Furthermore, if you’re using a computer to configure your stream, you can add/remove different windows. For example, you can even share Youtube videos with your viewers.

Furthermore, you can get more control with your chatroom. Therefore, you won’t need too many moderators to keep the peace with your viewers.

The negative side is that you’ll need to invest some money to set up things correctly. Getting a laptop/computer and a Capture Card might be too expensive for a beginner streamer. Still, though, you don’t need a powerful gaming PC to run things and stream without issues as your Playstation will be doing the heavy lifting.
