Elden Ring is the latest game from FromSoftware and it has become a super hit with more than 12 million copies sold a few weeks after launch. If you are facing NAT Type issues while playing the game then you need not worry. In this Elden Ring guide, we are going to walk you through how you can change the NAT Type on PC and consoles.

How To Change NAT Type On PlayStation

The different NAT Types on Playstation 4 and 5 are NAT Type 1, 2, and 3. NAT Type 1 means that you have a full connection to the internet but the security of the connection is poor. NAT Type 2 means that the level of security is moderate while Type 3 means that the connection is fully secure.

NAT Type 2 is most common while gaming on the PS4 or PS5. If you are facing connectivity issues or unideal multiplayer sessions then you might want to change the NAT Type. Unfortunately, doing this is not as simple as changing the setting in your console menu.

Enable Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)

You need to access your router’s admin panel via the internet browser. You will need the IP address of the router which is a series of numbers you can find on the sticker found on the base of the device. 192.168.1.1 is an example of a typical IP address. Enter the IP address into your browser and you will be able to access the admin panel.

Once you have entered the right IP address, you will need the username and password in order to access the admin panel. This can be found on the base of the router as well. Enter this into the fields and you will then be able to change the settings of your router.

You need to find the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) setting. This is generally found under the media section but it can be different for different devices. Once you have found it, be sure to enable it.

Port Forwarding

To change the NAT Type to open, you need to forward some ports of your PS4 or PS5 to match the Port Numbers of Elden Ring. The following are the port forwarding numbers that you need to use:

PS4

  • TCP: 3478-3480
  • UDP: 3074, 3478-3479

PS5

  • TCP: 3478-3480
  • UDP: 3074, 3478-3479

Once you have done this, you will need to restart your PlayStation console. Once you have done that, your NAT Type should be changed.

How To Change NAT Type On Xbox

As compared to PS things are a bit different on Xbox. The different NAT Types on Xbox are Open, Moderate, and Strict. Open means that your connection has poor security. Moderate NAT Type means that there is moderate security while Strict means that you have top security and that you might not be able to host multiplayer games.

Before you try port forwarding on your Xbox console, you should try and turn off the Instant On and Energy Saver settings. If that does not work for you then you should try hard resetting your Xbox console. If these options do not work for you then you will need to try port forwarding.

Port Forwarding

Head into the settings of your console and open Network Settings. Select the Advanced Settings option and find the IP Settings. Record the IP address and MAC address displayed here.

What you want to do is set the IP address of your Xbox to Static IP. Use the IP address and MAC address you got from the console settings to do so. You will find the option under the advanced settings in the admin panel but this can differ depending on the router you have.

To change the NAT Type to open, you need to forward some ports of your Xbox to match the Port Numbers of Elden Ring. Use the following numbers:

Xbox One

  • TCP: 3074
  • UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

Xbox Series X/S

  • TCP: 3074
  • UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500

After you have used the above-mentioned values, you need to reboot your console and your NAT Type should be Open.

How To Change NAT Type On PC

The different NAT Types on PC are the same as that of Xbox. The different NAT Types on PC are Open, Moderate, and Strict. Open means that your connection has poor security. Moderate NAT Type means that there is moderate security while Strict means that you have top security and that you might not be able to host multiplayer games.

There are different ways in which you can change the NAT Type on your PC. Use the following methods to do so.
