We all know Twitch as a massive platform where creators from all around the world can come together to make fun and memorable content for everyone to enjoy. While the main idea of Twitch is to stream your content to an audience, you cannot deny that the community is the backbone of Twitch and the reason the platform is so widespread in the first place.

Most channels and streamers are constantly talking to their chats either because they just like talking to their fans, or when they just want to engage their community in some memes and banter. Something about Twitch chat is that you can send normal messages, but you can also express yourself further by using emotes.

Emotes have a variety of functions and themes, and you also have some that are animated. If you’re a streamer and want to up the quality of your chat, here is how to get animated emotes on Twitch. The process is quite simple and anyone can do it.

How To Get Animated Emotes On Twitch

Something that you have to understand about the animated emotes feature is that you first have to be a Twitch Partner/Affiliate to use them.

Firstly, you have to access the Emotes section of your stream’s settings. From here, you can upload various images to make into emotes, and the way to get animated emotes, you have to upload GIFs. Using the Auto-Resize feature, you can have Twitch automatically assign the perfect size to your GIFs to make them usable in chat.

So, to upload animated emotes to your Twitch channel you have to:

  1. Go to the Emotes section of your Settings
  2. Click on Upload Animated Emote
  3. Click on the square button under the Upload Emote section
  4. Images/GIFS uploaded here have to be between 112x112px and 4096x4096px
  5. Enter the name of your emote
  6. Click on Upload

After that, the emote is going to be added to your channel and your viewers will be able to use it as they wish. As you can see, the whole process is quite simple and doesn’t take more than a few minutes.

How Do I Become A Twitch Partner/Affiliate?

We’ve previously mentioned that you need to be either a Partner or an Affiliate to gain access to animated emote slots, and while that might be a disappointing fact for some of you, you can be sure that gaining access to animated emotes is a worthwhile goal for any streamer. The road to becoming either of these things takes a bit of effort. but it all boils down to some simple criteria that you have to stick to.

Affiliate

Becoming an Affiliate on Twitch is accomplished after streaming for a considerable amount of time and amassing a small audience that tunes in regularly. When you become an Affiliate, your channel can then be monetized to earn money from subscribers and ad revenue, something most streamers aspire to. However, to become an Affiliate, you first need to complete these few steps:

  1. You need to have broadcast at least 500 minutes in total over the last 30 days
  2. You need at least 3 concurrent averaging viewers in the last 30 days
  3. You need at least 7 unique broadcasting days in the last 30 days
  4. And you need at least 50 followers

After these criteria are met, you will become eligible for becoming an Affiliate and you will most likely receive an invite e-mail within a few weeks. Keep in mind that once you become an Affiliate, you will earn 5 animated emote slots for your channel.

Partner

Now, becoming a Partner on Twitch is a much more arduous process than becoming an Affiliate, mostly because being a Partner means that you are dedicated to streaming full-time and that you’re ready for Twitch to become a massive part of your life. Twitch Partners level up in comparison to Affiliates by earning a considerable amount of benefits such as more efficient monetization, channel/chat customization, better VODs, video transcoding, and much more.

To meet the Partner criteria, you first need to complete these steps/achievements in the Path to Partner achievement section:

  1. You have to stream for at least 25 hours in the last 30 days
  2. You have to stream for 12 unique days in the past 30 days
  3. You have to average 75 viewers each time you stream in the last 30 days

After these conditions are met, you can Apply to become a Partner, but that is not guaranteed as your profile needs to be reviewed first. Other than those steps, it is also expected of Partners to rigorously follow and respect Twitch’s Community Guidelines. Essentially, you are expected to be a role model for new streamers and people who look up to streamers as trustworthy and respectable individuals.

Wrapping Up

Hopefully, you now have all of the knowledge you could want surrounding the Twitch Partner/Affiliate programs and acquiring animated emotes. The process is a bit lengthy because Twitch is steadily becoming an integral part of many people’s lives and they want to take things seriously 100% of the time.

Nonetheless, if you’re a dedicated person who loves streaming, you will see that these milestones are much closer than they seem.
