There is times when you are streaming that you may want to give a shout out to another streamer. Maybe they helped you out with something or even raided your channel. If that’s the case they probably deserve some love. We can set up a command that automatically shares the users Twitch link with our chat so that people can show them some love. Below is a step by step guide to quickly setting up the command.

Let’s jump in.

How To Set Up Shout Out Command On Twitch

To set up the shout out command on Twitch you will need to use a third party bot. In this tutorial I am going to be using the Stream Elements chat bot.

Step 1 – Make StreamElements A Mod In Your Channel

If you have not already made Streamelements a mod on your channel you will need to this before any commands or auto moderation will work. To do this open up your Twitch channel and navigate to Profile Picture –> Creator Dashboard –> Chat Box.

In the chat box type /mod streamelements

This will mod the Streamelements chat bot in your chat allowing you to use commands on in your stream.

Step 2 – Create A Custom Shoutout Command

Unfortunately Streamelements does not have a shout out command built into the chatbot. This means that we have to set up a custom command ourselves. To do this open your Streamelements dashboard and navigate to Chat Bot -> Chat Commands -> Custom Commands.

In this section we are able to create our own custom command from scratch.

When in the custom commands section click on Add New Command. This will open up box that lets us input information for our command.

We want the command to be triggered when someone types !SO in the chat. To do this set the Command name to !SO.

User Level should be set to “Moderator” as only you or your moderators want to be able to give shout outs to people in your stream.

The response section is what is displayed in chat when the command is triggered. Below I have included a template that shouts out the persons name, the game they were playing and also a link to their channel so your viewers can easily check it out.

Shout Out Command Template for Stream Elements:

Let's give a big WARM SHOUTOUT to ${1}, they were playing ${game ${1}} at https://twitch.tv/${1}

Copy and paste this into the response section and select Activate command. I would recommend personalizing the message a little bit so it fits with your brand.

Your Shout out command is ready to use on stream.

How To Activate And Test Your Shout Out Command

To test your shout out command go to your chat on twitch. In your chat box type in !so [Username] (The username of the person you want to shout out). Don’t include an @ symbol in front of their name or the link will not work.

If your command is set up successfully it should look like the below image.

Wrapping Up

You should now have a shout out command active on your stream allowing you to share some love to the people supporting you. If someone helps you in game or is generous enough to raid your stream this is a good way to help show your appreciation for them. It may even be a good idea to also raid them after you finish with your stream. If you can build a community of other small streamers to raid each other you can grow much faster.
