In this article I am going to show you two easy methods to stream directly from your iPad or iPhone to Twitch. Let’s jump in and get started.
How To Stream Directly From iPad & iPhone To Twitch
Twitch have recently added a feature allowing you to stream your games directly from your iPhone or iPad to Twitch. This feature is great if you just want to stream your games. The only problem is, you don’t have a webcam or good mic setup using this method. If you need that, scroll down and use the second method.
If you just want to stream your games then follow the steps below:
- Open the Twitch.tv app on your iPad or iPhone
- Click your profile picture in the top left corner
- In your Profile section, click on “Go Live”
- Click on the “Stream Games” button
- Search and pick the game that you want to play on your iPhone and iPad
- On this page you can set your Title and edit other stream information. Here you can also set your microphone and device volume. You should test your sound when you launch your stream to make sure your audience can hear you. When you have set up your Stream information, you can click on the Go Live button.
- You will now see this screen below. Select to turn your microphone on or off and then click on “Start Broadcast”.
- You are now live on Twitch streaming your phone screen. Everything you do on your phone screen can be seen on Twitch, including notifications. If you don’t want your notifications showing on screen, turn your phone onto “Do Not Disturb”.
When you are ready to stop streaming, click the red button in the top left corner of the screen. This will end the broadcast. You have now successfully had your first stream directly from your iPhone or iPad.
If you are streaming using this method, make sure you have your phone plugged into the charge. Playing mobile games while streaming is going to drain your battery really quickly.
How Can I Read Chat While Streaming From My Phone?
If you want to read chat messages, you will not be able to do this from your phone or iPad, while playing the game. You will have to use a second device to read chat. This could be another phone, a laptop or your PC. Just open your creator dashboard to view your live chat on any of these devices.
How To Stream Your iPad or iPhone To Your Computer
If you want to stream from your iPad and iPhone but still have access to your overlays, microphones etc then you will want to use this method. We are going to be using the Airserver app for Windows. This application allows you to airplay from your iPad or iPhone to your computer. You can then use this as a source in your live streaming software.
Follow the steps below to get set up:
- Download the AirServer application on your computer and install it. The app has a free trial but will cost $19.99 if you want the full version. Well worth the money if you regularly stream games from your iPad.
- Once the Airserver application is open on your computer you will now be able to airplay from your iPhone or iPad to your computer.
- Open you iPad or iPhone and swipe down from the right hand corner. Click on the screen mirroring button and you should now see your Windows PC appear in the screen mirroring section. Select your pc to start mirroring your phone. You must have your PC and Device on the same Wi-Fi Network for this to actually work.
- With Airserver now open on your computer, you will now see your iPad or iPhone being mirrored to the computer.
Once your device is mirrored to your computer you can add it to Streamlabs or OBS as a Window capture source. To do this follow the steps below.
How To Add A Window Capture Source In OBS
- Open OBS Studio on your Device
- Navigate to sources section and click on the “+” icon
- Select “Window Capture” and give your Window Capture source a name (iPad)
- Select the Airserver application from the Window Dropdown
- Click on OK
- You can now see your iPad or iPhone screen in OBS. Re-size and crop to your liking, to fit the window into your overlay.
You are now ready to stream mobile games on Twitch directly from your PC, fully equipped with your amazing setup.
Will Notifications Appear If I Am Using Airplay?
Yes, if you are streaming using airplay with either or the above methods, your messages and notifications will appear on screen. Make sure to turn your phone on “Do Not Disturb” before you start streaming. Otherwise you may find yourself with messages you don’t want others to see, being leaked.
