With this feature, you can stream directly into a voice channel with your friends. Not everyone wants to stream to the world on platforms like Youtube or Twitch but you may want to share your gameplay with your friends. In this article, we are going to show you how to stream on Discord.

How To Stream On Discord

Discord has made live streaming very easy to do. You can share your game or your screen directly with up to 10 people in your call. As long as the Discord server you are in has the ability to live stream you will be able to stream at any time. Follow the steps below to stream to your friends on Discord.

  1. Open Discord and select the server that you want to stream to
  2. Join a voice channel in the server

  1. When you are in a voice channel you will see the option at the bottom to share your screen. Click on the “Share Screen” button.

  1. Discord will ask you if you want to share an Application or Screen. If you select Application you can choose a specific application to share with your channel. This is what I would recommend using if you are sharing your game. If you want to share your whole screen, select Screens and choose the screen you want to share.

  1. When you select a screen or application a settings panel will appear. Here you can select your stream quality settings and frame rate. I would recommend sticking with the default. If you want to stream in 1080p 60 FPS you will have to purchase Discord Nitro to unlock those features.
  1. Click on the Go Live button to start your stream on your Discord channel. Once you go live you will see a preview of your stream as well as a “Live” indicator beside your name in Discord.

You have now successfully started streaming to your Discord server. People can decide to either watch your stream or not if they are in the same channel as you.

How To Change Screens While Streaming

While you are streaming your screen you may want to change the screen or application that you are showing your audience. To do this follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Screen button in the bottom left corner of your screen
  2. Select “Change Windows”
  3. Select the screen you now want to show from the Screen Share menu
  4. Click on Go Live

You have now successfully switch screens in Discord while streaming.

How To Stream Your Webcam On Discord

There may also be times when you want to stream just your webcam to your Discord server. This is also simple to do if you have a webcam connected to your computer. Follow the steps below to stream your webcam on Discord.

  1. Open Discord and go to the server you want to stream your webcam in
  2. Join a voice channel in the server
  3. Click on Video in the bottom left-hand corner
  1. When you select “Video” Discord will now display your camera to everyone in the channel.
  2. A camera icon will show beside your name to let people know that your camera is available to watch

How To Change Your Webcam Source In Discord

If you have multiple video capture devices connected to your computer, Discord may default to the wrong camera. In this case, you will need to change your camera source. To change your webcam follow the steps below:

  1. Open Discord and navigate to the settings button in the bottom left corner

  1. In the camera selection pick your camera from the drop-down box.

Now when you share your video with a call it will come from the camera you have selected in your settings.

How To Share Your Webcam & Game On Discord

There may be times when you want to share both your webcam and screen at the same time. Discord has the ability built in to do this. Follow the steps below to stream your camera and webcam at the same time on Discord.

  1. Open Discord and navigate to the server and channel you want to stream to
  2. Click on Screen and select the screen or application that you want to stream
  1. Once your screen is showing, you can now click on the video button and this will start displaying your camera as well as your screen

People in the channel will be able to select which layout they want to view when you are live. This means that they can feature your screen or webcam on full screen. As you can see above you can see my screen in large format with my webcam small at the bottom.

How Do I Watch A Live Stream On Discord

If someone is live in a Discord server you are a member of, you will be able to join their stream and watch. Follow the steps below to join a live stream on Discord.

  1. Find the person who is live in one of your servers
  2. Click on their name. A screen will appear with a preview of their stream.
  3. Click on “Watch Stream” to join their stream.

When you join a stream it will automatically place you in that Discord call. This means that people will be able to hear you if your mic isn’t muted and you will appear in the call.
