Hot keys are a great way to enhance your stream. A hotkey is essentially a shortcut on your keyboard or streamdeck which activates a command on your stream without having to navigate through menus. This can be a great way to switch through scenes while streaming, mute/unmute your mic and more.

How To Setup A Hotkey In Streamlabs OBS

To set your hot keys in OBS open up Settings –> Navigate down to Hot Keys

You will then be presented with the screen below. Here you are given lots of different tasks that you can map to a hot key.

For example if you wanted to create a Hot Key for starting a recording you would scroll to “Start Recording” , click in the box and then click the key you want to use as your hot key. Here I have used my numpad as I don’t use it for anything else.

You want to make sure the keys you are using for hot keys are not used for anything else so that you are not triggering random events while you are playing games.

How To Use Hot Keys To Switch Scenes (Streamlabs & OBS)

Scene switching is one of the most popular uses for Hot Keys as it makes it really easy to navigate between scenes while still being focused on your stream. This gives your stream a higher level of production value.

Streamlabs has a dedicated section under Hot Keys for scenes. To navigate to this got to Settings –> Hotkeys –> Scroll down to scenes.

Open up the scene that you want add a hot key to. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see “Switch to scene”. Click in the box and select the key you want to program to be used to switch to this specific scene.

You will now be able to push this key to activate the scene of your choice at any time.

Can I Map Hot Keys To My Streamdeck In Streamlabs?

Yes, you can use your Streamdeck for hot keys in the same way you would use your keyboard. When selecting which key to use for a certain command just click a button on your stream deck and this will enable it to be used for the Hot Key.
