Have you been lucky enough to get your hands on a Steam Deck? If so, you may be wondering if you can use it to watch Movies and Shows on Netflix. After all, it is a handy device to bring away on trips allowing you to play games and watch programs as well.
Luckily, you can watch Netflix on the Steam Deck however there are some limitations. Let’s jump in and take a look.
Can You Stream Netflix On Steam Deck?
Yes, you can stream Netflix on the Steam Deck however there is currently no native Netflix app for the console. To watch Netflix on the Steam Deck you will have to log in to your account through the built-in browser and watch there.
How To Watch Netflix On Steam Deck
The Steam Deck does not currently have a native app built in for Netflix. To watch Netflix on your Steam Deck you will need to use Desktop mode and the pre-installed Firefox browser. Follow the steps below to watch Netflix on your Steam Deck.
- Enter Desktop mode on your Steam Deck by holding down the power button and selecting “Switch To Desktop”.
- Click on the icon in the bottom left-hand corner and then open the Firefox browser
- From the browser, type https://netflix.com in the URL bar
- On the Netflix home screen click on Login and log in to your Netflix account
- You can now use Netflix just as you would on your computer
You can use any other browsers you also have installed on your Steam Deck.
Can I Download Netflix Shows On Steam Deck
Unfortunately, you will be unable to download shows and movies on Netflix to watch offline. As you are using the browser version of Netflix this functionality is unavailable. If you are looking to watch Netflix on your Steam Deck you will need to have an active internet connection.
Can I Watch Other Streaming Services On Steam Deck?
Yes, as the Steam Deck acts as a portable PC you can do anything you would be able to do in a standard browser. This includes watching your favorite streaming sites. You can watch the following streaming services on the Steam Deck:
- Netflix
- Amazon Prime
- Disney+
- HBO Max
- Hulu
- Paramount+
- Discovery+
- Showtime
- & Much more
None of these applications currently have an app available but all can be accessed through the firefox browser. Simply follow the steps below to access your favorite streaming service.
- Activate desktop mode on your Steam Deck by holding the power button and selecting “Switch to Desktop“
- Click on the icon in the bottom-left corner and select the firefox browser
- Enter the URL of the streaming service you want to watch in the URL bar
- Log in to your account
- Select the show you want to watch, sit back and enjoy it on your Steam Deck
Hopefully, in the near future, we will start to see these streaming services release apps for the Steam deck but that is currently unlikely as the Steam Deck market is still quite small.
