What does POG mean on Twitch? In short POG stands for Play of the Game. It is regularly used in Twitch chat when a streamer makes a great play while playing a game. POG is usually represented with the emote of a guy looking shocked however this emote has recently been banned on Twitch. Essentially POG, Poggers and POGChamp are used to express excitement or amazement about something that has happened on stream.

The emote below used to represent POGChamp however it has now been removed from Twitch.

Why Was POGChamp Banned On Twitch?

POGChamp was banned on Twitch on January 6, 2021. This was due to the face of the emote, Gootecks calling for civil unrest due to the woman who died at the Capitol Riots in January 2021.

Due to these comments Twitch decided to remove the emote from the platform on January 7, 2021. However they wanted the sentiment of POGChamp to live on.

For a short period of time Twitch took the recommendation of Sean Plott on Twitter to rotate through random streamer faces when the POGChamp emote was used on the platform.

What is The New POG Emote On Twitch?

Eventually on February 12th, the Twitch community voted on the new face of PogChamp. It was decided that the KomodoHype emote would be the new face of Pog.

How Can I Use The PogChamp Emote On Twitch?

Pogchamp is a global emote on Twitch meaning that PogChamp can be used by anyone on Twitch on any channel. These can be found in the global emotes section of your Twitch chat.

How Can I Use The Poggers Emote On Twitch?

To use the Poggers emote on Twitch you will need to install the Better Twitch TV (BTTV) browser extension. When you install this you get access to hundreds of extra emotes you can use on Twitch.

  1. Go to Better Twitch TV and install the Extension for the browser that you use. Once installed you will now be able to see the Poggers and other emotes in streamer chats.
  2. To configure your own Better Twitch TV so you can use the Poggers emote and other emotes go to any streamers chat and select chat settings. Here you can configure BTTV to your liking.

The streamer will have to have this emote enabled on their chat for you to be able to use it.

What Is The Origin Of The PogChamp Emote

The original PogChamp emote is based on a blooper video of Ryan Gootecks Gutierrez. This video originated back in 2010 however the emote was added to Twitch a few years later. In this video Gootecks and Mike Ross are having a conversation when suddenly the camera man knocked over the tripod. The original PogChamp emote comes from Gootecks reaction.

The name for the emote originated from a video of Gottecks and Roff. They were playing the popular game from the 90’s called POG. They were playing the game with a MadCatz joystick with Gootecks becoming the victor being crowned “PogChamp”.

Since then the emote has become extremely popular on Twitch and is spammed in chats when a great play is made or something exciting happens on Stream.

The new version of PogChamp originated from the previously mentioned vote for a new face of PogChamp.

You should use PogChamp, Poggers or Pog on stream when something exciting happens such as a really good play in a game.
