If you’ve played competitive games long enough, you’ll be pretty familiar with being matched with toxic players who would be ready to throw a match-winning position down the drain. While a game could develop the most severe penalty for toxic behavior, there’s no guarantee that it’s bound to stop any of it at all.

But what if a game introduced a new concept where they’d reward players for good behavior instead? Surely it would be something new to look forward to, even for the players who get tilted at something so minute that they decide just to throw the game. Overwatch has just done that, and they’re called Endorsements. So what are these, and how do they work?

What Are Endorsements?

Endorsements are used to encourage players after the match for their team-like and positive behavior. This feels to be quite a valuable feature added to the Overwatch series, where toxic players generally would feel motivated to give it their best rather than keeping their minds occupied with trash-talking and whatnot.

It helps people and their allies have a rough idea about what type of people they’ve teamed up with and what they should expect regarding their behavior. On the other hand, It also lets people know how well-mannered they were during a game.

How Do Endorsements Work In Overwatch 2

Each player starts with an Endorsement level 1 and can go as high as up to 5. As your level goes higher, you’ll get more Battle Pass experience as a reward, although the game hasn’t specified how much.

So instead of getting into the hassle of playing day and night long to complete your Battle Pass tiers, you can just focus on adopting a positive attitude throughout the game to get good feedback from your allies and make your grind a little bit easier, and less agitating.

You can give two Endorsements to any two different allies in your team. However, you cannot give an Endorsement to the same person in a 12-hour period. This is a measure taken by Blizzard to eradicate any sort of Endorsement abuse by players. Similarly, to avoid favoritism, you won’t be able to endorse your friends after a game either.

Are Endorsements Different In Overwatch 2 From Original Overwatch

If you’ve switched to Overwatch 2 and are wondering if the Endorsement concept is the same in it as it was in its prequel, then the answer to that is no. In the original Overwatch, there were three types of Endorsements; Sportsmanship, Good Teammate, and Shot Caller. Overwatch 2, however, combines all these types into a single Endorsement option.

You can now only give Endorsements to your allies, whereas in the original Overwatch, you could give them to your opponents as well. Plus, the prequel prevented you from endorsing the same player twice before a 24-hour period, while Overwatch 2 only has a 12-hour Endorsement cooldown.

In the original Overwatch, you could get loot boxes from your Endorsement levels alongside the Battle Pass XP. However, the sequel only lets you get the latter now, but in better quantity. Moreover, you cannot endorse your friends in Overwatch 2 which is a measure taken to ensure fairness and prevent any sort of boosting.

How To Check Your Endorsement Level In Overwatch 2

If you aren’t familiar with Endorsements in Overwatch 2 and don’t know what your level is, don’t worry! Follow these steps to know what your allies think about you:

  1. Launch the game and go to your Career Profile
  1. Head over to the Social Menu. From there, you’ll be able to view your Endorsement level which is the number to the right of your player name.

You can also hover your cursor over your friends, open their Career Profile, and check out their Endorsement level:

Wrapping Up

While no measure can completely eradicate toxic players from a game, features such as Endorsement levels do help filter out the negativity and toxicity from pubs. With that said, we hope you have a fun time playing the second rendition of Overwatch in (hopefully) a healthy gameplay environment.
