Discord is one of the most popular messaging applications among gamers and streamers. Lately, more and more groups are getting on board with Discord as well. It is easy to use and makes it easy to communicate and share photos and videos with friends.

However, if you have landed on this article you are likely having problems sending photos on Discord. This could be in a private chat with a friend or in a Discord server channel. There are a number of reasons this might be happening and a few ways to fix it. Let’s jump in.

If you are unable to send images on Discord it usually comes down to two reasons. Either the image file size is too big or the server you are in does not allow images. You can find the fixes for these problems below.

How To Fix Discord Can’t Send Images

Below are some of the main reasons that images may not be sent on Discord with the solution to fix the problem.

File Size Too Big

In Discord the maximum file size for uploading an image is 8MB. If you are trying to send an image that is bigger than 8MB you will get an error message. With images these days it is not uncommon for high-resolution images to be larger than 8MB.

If you want to send a large file size photo you will have to compress the image before sending it. You can do this using imagecompressor.com. Just drag your image into this software and it will automatically compress it.

You will then be able to send the photo in Discord as long as it is less than 8MB.

Privacy Settings Don’t Allow Images

Discord scans images that are sent on their network to check if they are explicit. If a user has their preferences set to scan all images sent to them, your message may be blocked if Discord thinks it is explicit.

You can ask this user to turn this off in their privacy settings in Discord.

To do this follow the steps below:

  1. Open Discord and navigate to settings
  2. Click on Privacy and Safety on the left hand side
  3. Select “Do No Scan” on messages

Discord will now not scan anything sent to that person allowing you to send your photo to them.

Discord Server Problems

If you are having problems with photos going through it may actually be a problem on Discord end. You can check if they are having server problems on their website.

To check the current state of Discord go to Discord Status.

If everything is green it generally means that Discord is not down and everything is working on their end. If that is the case, the problem may lie with your own connection.

If you are having problems with your own internet connection, we would recommend performing a restart on your router. This will likely resolve any issues you may be having.

Images Not Allowed In The Server/Channel

Depending on the server you are in, they may have set rules that do not allow photos to be sent. This is a common rule in many Discord text channels.

There really isn’t anything you can do about this. If you really want to send images into this Discord channel you will have to send it to an admin and have them send it in for you.

Restart/Update Discord

If you have tried everything else and are still unable to get Discord to work, you should make sure that Discord is updated to the latest version.

When you restart Discord it should search for updates and automatically install them if one is needed.

If you still think there is an update to be applied you can perform a manual update. To do this open Discord in full screen. Click CTRL + R and this will restart and update Discord.

Wrapping Up

Hopefully, this guide has helped you to fix your problem sending photos on Discord. You should now be able to share images and files freely with the people you want to.
