Have you finally saved up enough cash to purchase the PC of your dreams and are ready to take your stream to the next level. In this article we are going to go through the best OBS Studio settings for high end PCs. After setting up your OBS using these settings you will be able to run a high quality smooth stream without any lag.

We’re going to go step by step through each OBS Settings page so you can easily follow along. If your looking for settings for Streamlabs they can be found here.

Best OBS Studio Settings For High End PCs

Settings – Video

To start we want to go to File –> Settings –> Video in OBS Studio

The first thing we want to do is adjust our video settings. We want to set our Base Canvas resolution to 1920×1080. If you tend to play your games in 1440p or higher you can set your resolution to that however most streamers stick to 1080p for higher in game performance.

For our Output Scaled Resolution we want to to set this to 1280×720. While your PC and internet can likely handle 1080p it can actually negatively hurt your stream. When streaming in 720p it means that viewers with slower internet will still be able to watch your stream without any lag.

For downscale filter you will want to set this to Bicubic. This is the best option if you are scaling between two resolutions. If you do decide to stream in 1080p set this to Bilinear.

Your FPS Type should be set to common FPS Values and 60 fps for a smooth stream.

Settings – Output

To access output settings go to File –> Settings –> Output in OBS Studio.

The first thing we want to do is set Output mode to Advanced. This gives us a few more options to play with. Depending on the graphics card you are using there is two different options to choose from for your encoder.

If you are using an AMD Graphics Card you will want to use the Software x264 encoder whereas if you’re using an Nvidia graphics card you want to use the NVENC encoder.

The NVENC encoder allows you to use your GPU to encode your stream. This method of encoding has proved to work great for improving stream quality while being less resource intensive.

Choose the Encoder that best suits your PC.

Leave Rescale Output unchecked and set your Rate Control to CBR. I would recommend setting your bitrate to 6000 Kbps however this will depend on the speed of your internet. If you find you are dropping a lot of frames at 6000 Kbps then adjust downward in 500 Kbps increments until you have no dropped frames.

Below you can see the settings for x264.

NVENC Settings (Nvenc enabled Nvidia Graphics Cards)

With Nvenc there is a few extra settings that we have to tweak. If you have an Nvidia graphics card I highly recommend using this option over Software.

I would still recommend setting your Rate Control to CBR and setting your Bitrate to 6000.

For the Preset option set this to Quality and set your profile to High.

Make sure that Psycho Visual Tuning is selected and GPU is set to 0. That should be your setting perfect for running a high quality stream with OBS Studio on your High End PC.

Below is an image of the settings.

Wrapping Up

Hopefully these settings help you to get maximum performance out of your new gaming rig. These are our recommend settings but every pc configuration varies a lot so you may need to adjust some settings to get the best performance for you.

Even if your computer is really good, while you’re gaming and streaming at the same time it still may struggle to stream for example in 1440p. You may find you have to adjust some graphics settings in your game or lower the resolution you stream at to get a smooth performance.

Please let us know down below in the comments if you have any questions about your streaming setup.
