If you regularly watch on Twitch, then you might have encountered the dreaded “error 2000” network issue already. If not, then you might encounter it in the future but we are crossing our fingers and hoping that you won’t.
Fortunately, we have the solution to the error 2000 problem. It would take a lot of trial and error though to see which method works for you. Let’s get started.
7 Ways To Fix Twitch Error 2000
Method 1 – Reload Your Browser
This fix is similar to the meme “have you tried turning it on and off again” but this time it might work for you. It is simple yet there are reports that a simple reload on your browser would resolve the error 2000 on Twitch.
You may try to refresh the Twitch page first and see if the error still appears. If it does, close your browser and re-open it again. Get back to the Twitch stream and check if you can finally watch your favorite streamer.
Why would this method work?
The error 2000 is network-based and sometimes your browser tries to communicate with Twitch and make a connection. Unfortunately, the connection is not established and you need to refresh the Twitch page or your whole browser.
Method 2 – Clear The Browser Cookie And Cache
Another simple fix to the error 2000 is to clear your browser’s cookie and cache. Since the cookie and cache store website data in your browser. This allows a website to fill in the username and password details and it also helps in making a website load faster.
However, the cookie and cache sometimes get outdated especially if you have not visited a website for a while. If Method 1 does not reset your cookie and cache immediately then you will have to do it manually.
Follow these steps to clear your cookie and cache on Google Chrome. These steps are similar if you use other browsers too.
- Open your browsing history by clicking Ctrl + H or by going into settings and then history.
- Navigate to the upper left side of your screen and you will see the Clear Browsing Data option. Click on it and a new tab will open.
- Set the time range to All Time.
- Make sure that “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files” are checked. You may also select Browsing history if you want to wipe everything, but we can leave it unchecked for now.
- Click on Clear Data and you are done. Your browser cookie and cache are now clear.
- Open Twitch and see if the error 2000 still appears.
Method 3 – Check Your Antivirus
Windows Defender is more than enough to keep your computer clear of harmful viruses. But if you want to install another one to make sure that no virus gets through then you may go ahead.
However, if you regularly watch on Twitch then you might need to double-check if your antivirus is causing the error 2000 issue.
Sometimes antiviruses are aggressive in blocking websites and you have to manually check if it is a false positive. There are instances too where you might have previously set to block outgoing traffic. This blocks the connection between your browser and Twitch.
Try to disable your antivirus and reload your browser. If the problem persists then it is not caused by your antivirus. Do not forget to re-open your antivirus to protect your computer.
If the problem stops, then you need to check your antivirus and set an exception to Twitch. You may also install a different antivirus if you are worried that it may happen again.
Method 4 – Disable Your Adblocker
Twitch is free to use and you may watch any streamer that you want to. However, one way for these streamers to earn money is through advertisements and Twitch subs.
We get it that advertisements are annoying especially if it suddenly pops up in the middle of an intense battle. The problem with Twitch ads is that you cannot go back to the part you missed.
These are just a few reasons why you might have an Adblocker installed. However, it might be messing with your browser and Twitch connection leading to the error 2000.
Disable your Adblocker on Google Chrome by following these steps. If you are using Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or a different browser, the steps are pretty similar.
Option 1 – Through The Extensions Menu
- Open the Extensions menu by opening a new tab and then typing chrome://extensions/ in the address bar.
- You may also open the Extensions menu by clicking the three dots on the upper right side of your Chrome browser. It will open the Settings menu. Click on More Tools then select Extensions.
- Look for your Adblocker extension and then click on the tab to disable it. In this example, we are using uBlock Origin adblocker.
- Open Twitch and see if the error persists.
Option 2 – Disable Adblocker through the Chrome Extension bar
- Google Chrome extensions show up as icons on your browser. It can be found in the upper right corner after the search bar.
- Click on your adblocker. In this case, uBlock Origin, and then click on the large power button icon to disable it.
- You are done! Open Twitch and check if error 2000 still appears.
This method works if your Adblocker has this feature. If you are using uBlock Origin, doing this method allows you to disable the extension on a per website basis.
If you want to disable the extension totally, then use the Option 1 instructions above.
Method 5 – Disable Your VPN
VPNs or Virtual Private Networks are often used to access location-based content on sites such as Netflix. It is also essential if you want to browse the Internet untracked since it will hide your traces at a virtual location.
However, the problem with using a VPN on Twitch is it might lead to error 2000. The error pops up if your VPN could not establish a reliable connection to Twitch since it will route your network to a different place first.
Disabling your VPN will fix the error 2000 problem because your browser will now have a more consistent connection to Twitch.
If you want to continue using a VPN, then try to choose a different server location – somewhere nearer if possible. This is to make the transfer of data between your browser and Twitch quicker. It also prevents loss of connection as you watch a stream.
On the other hand, if you are not using a VPN and error 2000 appears then you might try a VPN to watch on Twitch. It might solve your problem since the connection is routed from a different server.
Method 6 – Check Your Network And Change Your DNS
Changing your DNS or Domain Name System is a more advanced fix since you will have to tweak your actual network settings. Going this route may fix your error 2000 problem on Twitch but it might restrict your access to other websites as well.
Follow these steps to proceed.
- Press your Windows key and type Network then press Enter. The Network & Internet settings window will open.
- Under the Status settings. Navigate to the Advanced Network Settings and click on Change Adapter Options. A new window will open.
- There will be different network options to choose from. Right-click then select Properties on the connection that you want to update. Choose either your LAN connection or Wi-Fi depending on where you are connected.
- The Connection properties window will open.
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click Properties and a new window will appear.
- Scroll down and proceed to click the dot beside the “Use the following DNS server addresses” option.
- Type your preferred DNS server. Enter a secondary DNS server to be sure.
- Click on Ok and then Close the other Window.
- Open Twitch to check if error 2000 still appears.
There are different DNS Server numbers to choose from. You may choose from the numbers below.
- Google: 8.8. 8.8 & 8.8. 4.4.
- Quad9: 9.9. 9.9 & 149.112. 112.112.
- OpenDNS: 208.67. 222.222 & 208.67. 220.220.
- Cloudflare: 1.1. 1.1 & 1.0. 0.1.
- CleanBrowsing: 185.228. 168.9 & 185.228. 169.9.
- Alternate DNS: 76.76. 19.19 & 76.223. 122.150.
- AdGuard DNS: 94.140. 14.14 & 94.140.
Method 7 – Try Incognito Mode or Use A Different Browser
Another simple trick is to use Incognito Mode in Google Chrome. It is called private browsing on other browsers.
This method might work if you are only experiencing the problem on a certain browser. But if it is a network issue, then the methods above are the possible solution. Still, it does not hurt to try though.
If incognito mode on your preferred browser does not work then switching to a different one might be the answer.
