Set your camera or phone to record in 4k 30FPS if possible. This will give us the best initial footage to work with our editing software. Using 4k allows us to punch in on shots without losing any quality when working with a 1080p canvas.
Step 2 – Export In 1080P
When you are editing your videos in your editing software you will be working with your 4k footage in a 1080p canvas. When you have finished editing your video, export the footage at 1080P.
If you created the video with a 4K canvas it would get massively compressed when uploading to TikTok. However, if you export in 1080P TikTok won’t use much compression and you will get a much better quality video overall.
Step 3 – Select The High-Quality Setting On Tiktok
Once you have your video file ready to upload, you will want to select a hidden option on TikTok when uploading. Be default TikTok won’t upload footage at the highest quality as they want to save money as we mentioned earlier. While it defaults to the lower quality, we can manually choose for our video to be uploaded in high-quality.
When you upload high-quality videos to Tiktok, follow the steps below:
- Open TikTok and click on the upload button
- Select your video from your camera roll
- Add any text or effects you want to your video
- Click on next
- On this page scroll down to the bottom and ensure that “Allow high-quality uploads” is selected.
- Click on the post to upload your video in the highest possible quality.
You should now have successfully uploaded your video without losing any quality during the upload process. Your viewers will be able to watch your video in all its glory.
Does TikTok Support 4k Footage?
No, TikTok does not support 4k footage currently. The highest quality TikTok will upload in is 1080P. TikTok will allow you to upload 4k footage but it will automatically scale down to 1080P. This compression can cause the video to look worse than just shooting in 1080P. The best option is to record in 4k –> Export in your editing software at 1080P –> Upload to TikTok.
