TikTok is currently one of the best social media platforms for fast growth. While the platform is great for growth you may have found that when you upload high-quality videos to TikTok, the quality is much worse than it looks on your phone or computer before upload.

You’re probably wondering how other people’s videos seem to be much better quality than yours.

In this article, we are going to show you how to upload videos to TikTok in high quality so you can show off your work the way it was intended. Using the methods below will get you the highest quality possible on TikTok.

Why Does TikTok Lower Quality Of Videos

The main reason TikTok lowers the quality of videos is to save space on their servers. Higher-quality videos take up much more storage which would cost TikTok a lot more money. To save money, TikTok will compress your video when uploading. This makes the file size smaller, allowing them to save money however it will also lower the quality of the video slightly.

So if you’re noticing your crisp videos becoming not so pixel-perfect after uploading this is why. Luckily there are some things we can do to improve the quality of the video when uploading.

How To Upload High-Quality Videos To TikTok

If you want to get the best possible quality on TikTok, it starts with the point you are recording your footage. Whether you are using a camera or an iPhone you want to record in the best possible quality.

For most modern cameras and high-end smartphones, you can record in 4K.

Step 1 – Record In 4k

Set your camera or phone to record in 4k 30FPS if possible. This will give us the best initial footage to work with our editing software. Using 4k allows us to punch in on shots without losing any quality when working with a 1080p canvas.

Step 2 – Export In 1080P

When you are editing your videos in your editing software you will be working with your 4k footage in a 1080p canvas. When you have finished editing your video, export the footage at 1080P.

If you created the video with a 4K canvas it would get massively compressed when uploading to TikTok. However, if you export in 1080P TikTok won’t use much compression and you will get a much better quality video overall.

Step 3 – Select The High-Quality Setting On Tiktok

Once you have your video file ready to upload, you will want to select a hidden option on TikTok when uploading. Be default TikTok won’t upload footage at the highest quality as they want to save money as we mentioned earlier. While it defaults to the lower quality, we can manually choose for our video to be uploaded in high-quality.

When you upload high-quality videos to Tiktok, follow the steps below:

  1. Open TikTok and click on the upload button
  2. Select your video from your camera roll
  3. Add any text or effects you want to your video
  4. Click on next

Does TikTok Support 4k Footage?

No, TikTok does not support 4k footage currently. The highest quality TikTok will upload in is 1080P. TikTok will allow you to upload 4k footage but it will automatically scale down to 1080P. This compression can cause the video to look worse than just shooting in 1080P. The best option is to record in 4k –> Export in your editing software at 1080P –> Upload to TikTok.
