As with all Soulsborne games, there is a recurring issue called the Elden ring save file issue. You might end up losing your saved file because of one issue or the other.

To counter this problem, most Elden Ring players will keep backups of their saved data to ensure that they can return to their journey in The Lands Between should they lose their progress due to any unforeseen circumstances.

Elden Ring Save File Location

The Elden Ring save file can be found by opening up the command prompt (Windows + R), and typing in %appdata%. Open up the Elden Ring folder here, and here you’ll find a folder marked with a set of numbers that is your steam ID. The file with the .sl2 extension is your save file.

You can copy the entirety of the “EldenRing” folder and paste it wherever you like in your computer to backup your save file. It is recommended you do this after every long session to avoid losing all of your progress.

How to Import a Elden Ring Save File

To load another person’s save file, you will have to use a save editor to alter their progress to your Steam ID’s code. Download the Elden Ring Save Copier project from GitHub to get started.

Once you have the tool, download the 100% save file from NexusMods (If that’s what you want, you can browse other options as well).

Note: Beyond this point, back up your save file in case anything goes wrong, so you have your original progress still intact.

Go to the folder you downloaded the 100% save file to. Set its destination to the “Source File” for the tool.

For the “Destination File”, you’ll be setting it to replace one of your previous save files. So, select the folder with the Steam account you’re currently playing from (Differentiable by your Steam ID).

Once your “Destination File” is set. You’ll see which characters you can place in your respective slot. Launch up the game afterwards, and you’ll see the new char.

Elden Ring Config File Location

The config file can be found by opening up the command prompt (Windows + R) yet again and typing in %appdata%. Go into the Elden Ring folder, and in the directory, you’ll find the GraphicsConfig.xml file. Edit it with the Notepad to alter your video settings from here.

Using the file, you can edit the following settings directly without having to start the game. The following settings can be edited from the GraphicsConfig:

  • Screen Mode – Full Screen, Borderless, Windowed
  • Resolution – Can be set to custom heights and widths
  • Best Render Settings – ON or OFF
  • Texture Quality – Low, Medium, High, or Max

As long as your Steam account remains the same, you can just load the save file into any computer you want, in the right directory, and just hop right back into the game from where you originally left off!
