One of the best things to experience as a gamer is when you finally get to E3 or any other new game event, where dozens of new games are announced each year and you have something new to look forward to.

The types of games released each year vary wildly in theme, from simple indie games to revolutionary AAA titles that have $100 million budgets and engaging stories. 2022 has seen some fantastic games so far, and we’re still to see some even more anticipated titles by the end of the year (at the time of writing).

If you’re a gamer looking for some new AAA games to play in your spare time, then you’re in luck! Here is a list of the best current AAA games on Steam to check out! These games are titans of their craft, made by big-name studios that are dedicated to bringing you the pinnacle of quality and fun.

Best Triple A Games On Steam

Elden Ring

Starting off extremely strong, we have Elden Ring. Elden Ring is the newest instalment by FromSoftware, the studio that has produced masterpieces such as Bloodborne, Sekiro, and the Dark Souls series. These games are renowned for their phenomenal stories and very challenging difficulty.

In Elden Ring, you are a Tarnished warrior that is drawn to the Lands Between by a force called Grace, which beckons you to come forth and become the Elden Lord. However, the path to that is incredibly hard and unforgiving, because the Lands Between are ruled by six Demigods with ludicrous power.

To defeat them, you need to traverse the lands, killing various enemies and bosses, collecting their Runes, and levelling up your character. Each Demigod slain boosts your power even further, and also reveals more of the story the more you go.

Aside from this, the game is chock full of secrets to find, complete with puzzles, dungeons, and much more. The director of FromSoftware, Hidetaka Miyazaki said that he put everything he learned from past games into Elden Ring, and it has turned out to be his magnum opus.

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt

Moving on, we have another fantasy game that has been around since 2015, but it was so well-made that it has remained the main game for thousands of gamers worldwide to enjoy each day. The game is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels, and it follows the protagonist of the former, Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf.

In the books, Witchers are humans that have undergone painful, traumatic mutations that heighten their senses and make them more powerful. This is done so they can be strong enough to fight the various monsters they encounter in the world. Witchers are perfect monster hunters, and they act as mercenaries and assassins for whoever’s coin purse is the heaviest.

With that in mind, there is more to Geralt’s story than just killing monsters. He is a prophetic character who has a war named Cirilla, a child of Elder Blood who holds tremendous power. A group called the Wild Hunt is looking for her, and it is Geralt’s job to make find her before they do. Your journey spans continents and the game has enough content to keep you satisfied for months.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption is one of those games that you can always play, no matter your mood or predisposition for other games. It is a noticeable step in a different direction compared to the two fantasy games we have mentioned so far, but that is a good thing because a very broad audience of gamers likes the Western thematic.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was made by Rockstar Games, producers of the Grand Theft Auto series. The story is set at the end of the classic Western period, where bandits and outlaws are few and far between, pushed to the brink of extinction due to the times changing. Arthur Morgan, a well-known cowboy, an outlaw is associated with the Van de Meer gang comprised of other outlaws that rob trains and commit crimes.

The game follows the open-world dynamic, where you complete missions in a similar way to GTA games, but there are a lot more things to do, such as animal hunting, bounty hunting, and anything else you might come across on your journey. Overall, it’s a fantastic game that is sure to keep you occupied for a long time.

Resident Evil Village

From the open fields of the West, we move into Sci-Fi/horror territory with Resident Evil: Village. This is the eighth instalment of the amazing Resident Evil series, not accounting for other games that do not fall into the official numeration like Raccoon City and Code Veronica. The story builds upon Resident Evil: Biohazard, another fantastic that fundamentally changed the way the game is played, as well as the general direction of the series.

SPOILERS FOR RESIDENT EVIL 7 AHEAD! Like in the last game, you play as Ethan Winters who has just moved to a small European town with Rose, his daughter, and his wife, Mia. Your image of the ideal family setting is broken by Christ Redfield, who kidnaps you, but your transport is ambushed and you are left stranded in a small village overrun by mutated werewolf-like humans.

We won’t go into much detail in case you haven’t played the game, but there are some powerful individuals in the village that control certain areas of it, and you have to go through them one by one, as the story commands you. It’s an amazing game and a very fresh perspective on Resident Evil as a whole.

Fallout 4

The Fallout series has produced some of the best games in recent memory, aside from some smaller failures like Fallout 76, but that does not detract from the fact that Bethesda has knocked it out of the park with most of their games. Fallout 4 is set in a dystopian world that has been ravaged by a nuclear explosion.

The rich portion of the population was segmented into special Fallout shelters, your family included. People in these shelters are supposed to be suspended in time, sleeping for a long time, but through some error or other, you wake up in your capsule and find that your wife and child are missing.

Leaving the underground shelter, you are thrust into an unforgiving world full of mutated monsters and death. You have to scrounge around the world looking for resources, weapons, as well as information regarding the whereabouts of your child.

As you make your way through the story, you will encounter other people, some helpful and some hostile, but you have to deal with them as you come across them, so interactions are necessary.

Overall, the story is amazing and we wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone looking for something special and memorable.

Monster Hunter: World

Moving on, we now Monster Hunter: World. The story of this game goes that you are a researcher for a specific Commission on the planet of Asteria. This Commission sends out warriors and other researchers to different places on the planet where they are tasked with examining various monsters that inhabit the world.

The game always tries to sway you in the way of teamwork, because some of the monsters that you have to examine can be hostile and attack you. We aren’t talking about small monsters like in other games, but gargantuan beasts that can easily take down a well-established team with a flick of their tail.

That is where most of the excitement of Monster Hunter: World comes from, and it’s precisely the reason why the game is so popular. When it comes to the playable characters, you have different classes and playstyles that you can adopt, and each one of those can be even further improved by crafting special gear and weapons to use against the monsters.

Overall, we highly recommend this game if you’re looking for something to enjoy with your friends!

Devil May Cry 5

That was a team-oriented game, now we move on to some demon slaying. The Devil May Cry series has produced some fantastic edgy games that gamers worldwide love. The story of Devil May Cry 5 is centered around some of the main characters of the series, namely Dante.

The plot follows Nero and Dante as they search for a demon named Urizen who is extremely powerful and a massive threat to humanity in general. As your progress through the stories, you will actually be in touch with the storylines of multiple characters — V, Dante, and Nero. V is a gloomy Edgar Alan Poe wannabe that uses a cane as well as three summoned demons to combat his enemies.

Dante is the protagonist of the series and he uses swords coupled with a variety of different weapons for different purposes. And finally, Nero, the character we play as for the majority of the game uses a prosthetic arm called a Devil Breaker as well as a sword to kill his enemies. Overall, the game is definitely among the best Devil May Cry instalments and we highly recommend it for anyone looking for an unforgettable hack n’ slash experience!

God Of War

Slaying demons is fun and all, but something that we love even more is slaying gods as one of the most badass characters in gaming history — Kratos. The God of War series was initially meant to be based on Greek mythology, but the director of the games, Cory Barlog used his excellent skills and imagination to take our favorite angry protagonist and thrust him into the world of Norse mythology.

There was a time skip during which Kratos established a family with a Giantess named Faye, and had a son called Atreus. At the beginning of the game, we learn that Faye had died sometime before, and Kratos, together with Atreus go on a mission to scatter her ashes atop the highest peak in all the nine realms. The combat and perspective of the game have been changed, with a dominant over-the-shoulder perspective coupled with a new weapon — the Leviathan Axe.

Something that you might appreciate about this game is that there is not a single loading screen that cuts off your gameplay. The entire game is rendered and fits into a single cinematic sequence that you can just play through without any cuts. God of War is one of the best games of 2018 and we highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of what they want to play.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Now we have an amazing game for all of you comic book lovers out there. Movie fans have already seen the Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters, so they might already understand what they can expect from this game, but just in case you’re new, here’s what it is about. Usually, the Guardians of the Galaxy are a ragtag group of heroes that cruise through the cosmos in a spaceship, finding work in whatever field they want.

The story follows Peter Quill, who later becomes Star Lord on his journey from childhood to becoming one of the main enforcers in the galaxy as well as a founding member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The gameplay is presented in the third person and involves you using Star Lord’s elemental handguns through a variety of missions and combat scenarios.

Other than that, most of the game is carried out and looks like a Marvel movie, complete with witty quips and interesting dialogue. There is a lot more to discover in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and we highly recommend this game for everyone to try out.

Doom Eternal

Last, but certainly not least, we have Doom Eternal, the long-awaited sequel to the 2016 game that reshaped the entire doom franchise and gave it new life. The 2016 version of the game featured fantastic graphics and very dynamic and innovative gameplay. Doom Eternal takes everything that the 2016 version brought to the table and turned it up to eleven by adding many new features that make it even more brutal and badass.

The storyline has been continued after the first game, going even deeper into the lore and presenting us with plenty of new enemies and friendly characters. Something to note about Doom Eternal is that the developers tried to listen to the community and their feedback, so they went out of their way to include some quality-of-life updates that make the game more enjoyable to play.

For the less powerful PC users that are reading this, you are in luck! That is because Doom Eternal is an extremely well-optimized game so even weaker systems can run it without issues. We love everything about Doom Eternal and we hope that you get as much kick out of it as we did.
