Discord has an early access program that allows users to access features that are not released yet. The Discord Beta program is made to catch bugs before it gets into a stable release.

Accessing early access features is interesting as you can connect with the developers and the community. If you want to join the program, continue reading as we will discuss how to become a beta tester for Discord.

What are the available Discord Versions?

Just like other programs, Discord has multiple versions available today.

Stable

The standard Discord app is the one we know today. It does not have that many bugs and works as intended. This version is the one available on the Discord website, Google PlayStore, and Apple Store for download.

Beta

The Beta Discord is also called the Public Test Build. This version is available for beta testers. It is also stable but it has extra features that may get into the Stable Discord app if the feedback says so. The only downside with the Beta Discord is the higher percentage of bugs.

This build is available for Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Alpha

This is the unstable version of Discord. It is dubbed “Canary” on Desktop and “Alpha” on Android. This build is something that you would not want to install but if you love bugs then go ahead and install this at your own risk. The majority of bugs are usually found in the Alpha build so it is not recommended for day-to-day usage unless you are a developer.

What To Do After Joining The Discord Beta Program

If you managed to get into the Discord Beta Program, your goal now is to provide feedback or report bugs that you encountered while using the app.

Bugs are unintended behaviors that make for a bad user experience. Crashes, improper links, and buttons not working are a few examples of bugs that make the whole Discord experience horrible.

You may report bugs through the Submit a Request form here.

Discord developers have a format when filling up the bug form and you have to be specific when reporting a bug.

Words that are too general will be accepted on the form but your bug submission might be set aside.

The best way to report bugs is to include the following concisely:

  • Title – Describe the bug in a short sentence
  • Reproduction Steps – Make a step-by-step guide to making the bug appear.
  • Expected Result – What should happen.
  • Actual Result – What happens when you do the steps.
  • Client Settings – Include your Discord build, host, and version.
  • System Settings – List down your Operating System. For mobile devices, write your Device + OS version. Ex. (Samsung Galaxy S22 Android 12).

If your Discord Bug Report is accepted, it will be forwarded to the team and will be listed here.

Wrapping Up

Discord is getting more popular each day and the more beta testers it has, the smoother its development will be. If you are interested to become one, then hopefully we answered “How To Become A Beta Tester For Discord” precisely.

Always remember though that Discord Beta and Alpha builds are unstable and might fail anytime due to bugs. But if that is your jam, then go ahead and squish some bugs.
