If you are streaming certain games or streaming your web browser you may want to blur out a section of your screen. In this article I will show you how to do both of these blur methods in OBS & Streamlabs.

Let’s jump in and get started.

How To Add A Blur To A Specific Part Of Your Screen In OBS

The first thing we will cover is adding a blur to a specific part of your screen in OBS. You may want to do this if you have private information you want to cover on screen.

The best method to add a blur to OBS is through a plugin called StreamFX. It has lots of extra features you can use in OBS including a great Blur function. Let’s show you how you can get it set up.

Step 1 – Download StreamFX

Click here to download the Stream FX Plugin. This link will take you to a GitHub page with the latest version of the software. On the right hand side of the page you will see a tab called “Releases”.

This will take you to a page with the latest update. Scroll down to the Assets section where you will find the application for Mac, Ubuntu and Windows. Download the Windows .exe file.

Once you have downloaded the file double click on it to install the extension. Make sure OBS is closed before installing otherwise the installation may fail. You should now have installed the Extension.

Step 2 – Open OBS & Check StreamFX Is Installed

Now that you have installed Stream FX you should see the StreamFX panel in the top bar of OBS.

Step 3 – Add A Blur To Your Screen

We can now use StreamFX to add a blur to any item in our scene. Right-click on any source you want to add a blur to and select Filters –> + –> Blur –> Give Your Blur A Name.

Here we have multiple types of blur to choose from in the Type Box; Box, Box Linear, Gaussian, Gaussian Linear and Dual Filtering.

I would recommend using the Dual filtering method as this will take the least resources on your computer.

When you select this it will cover the whole source in a blur. If you want to change the blur to a specific part of the source click on Apply A Mask.

You will then see option to drag the mask in from the left, right, top and bottom.

Drag your sliders in to put the blur in your desired location.

You now have a blur added to your OBS easily with this StreamFX extension.

What Is The Best OBS Blur Plugin?

The best OBS blur plugin is StreamFX. It is the plugin we mentioned in the tutorial above and comes with lots of other effects you can use on your stream.

Wrapping Up

Now you can easily utilise a blur anywhere it is needed on your stream. Make sure that your blur is added on all of the scenes that you use in case they also have anything that you need to blur out.
